What’s Next?

So after 3 short years, your degree is finally over.

After a brief sigh of relief, you suddenly wonder ‘what am I going to do with all this free time?’

Friends, family, people at work, lecturers, aunties from church, acquaintances and a random lady in Asda are all suddenly interested in what you plan to do with your life – cue the dreaded question: ‘what’s next?’

Although endearing, this seemingly endless stream of questions can lead to panic (well for me anyway) because honestly speaking, you don’t have a clue!.

BUT HOLD UP

I’m pretty sure most people have no idea what they want to do at the age of 21…or even 40. So there is actually no need to worry.

We don’t actually need to know what we want to do with the rest of our lives at this present moment. So don’t feel rushed or pressured to pursue something you’re not interested in just because everyone else seems to have their lives together.

Take some time to recoup post-degree: travel a little bit, get a part-time job – enjoy life! This is our time to be free, sans responsibility so let’s make the most of it!

Our lives will work out and unfold in the way they’re supposed to.

Psalm 37 has some helpful tips for this season:

  1. Trust God

He has a plan and a purpose for your life – so even if you don’t know what you’re doing, He does.

  1. ‘Live in the Land and feed on truth’

Keep living – doing what you’re doing, turning to the word for direction

  1. ‘Enjoy serving the Lord’

Take the opportunity to volunteer – in church or in the local community, it’s great experience and keeps you busy

  1. ‘Wait and trust the Lord’

Be patient, there is a right time for everything – so know that God will bring the right opportunity for you at the right time

  1. Don’t compare yourself with others

As cliché as it is, everyone’s on their own journey – so ‘do not be upset when others get rich or when someone else’s plans succeed’ – Your time will come as well

Hope this helps keep your blood pressure low and stress at bay

Stay blessed!

Jess 🙂
